As of January 1, 2010, The Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois State Lodge no longer uses telemarketing as a means of fundraising for the organization. Recently, we have found that there are telephone solicitation scams that are using the Fraternal Order of Police name in order to gain trust from the public and attempt to acquire money and personal information. Please be wary of phone solicitation. Some local lodges still use telemarketing for their donation request efforts, but they should be happy to provide you with any information you ask of them in trying to ascertain the legitimacy of their fundraising campaign.
A request may be made to be placed on a “Do Not Call List” and in the event of scam we ask that you contact the Illinois Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Fraud at 800-386-5438 (Chicago) 800-844-5461 (Springfield) or 800-243-0607 (Carbondale). If you have any questions or concerns about a potential FOP telemarketing call, please do not hesitate to call our office at 800-522-2677.
The ILFOP is interested in increasing our communication with our members! Please read this Request for Information and send us your information!

On 9/14/09 a motor officer in Washington State was involved in an officer involved shooting. The suspect was being pursued for several hit and run accidents. Upon finally complying with pursuing police and stopping, the suspect backed (rammed) into the motor officer as he stopped him. The motor officer responded with 9 rounds from a 40 cal, killing the suspect. The officer received minor injuries to his left leg.
The investigating agency recently completed its report and it was requested it be forwarded on to the U.S. Attorney and the FBI for review. While it is believed that the use of lethal force was justified, the motor officer’s agency is reviewing the option of using the study and expertise of Dr. Bill Lewinski of the Force Science Institute.
This request is to determine if any law enforcement agency has used Force Science Institute and can provide an evaluation of their expertise that would support an action and expense of this kind. In addition, it would be helpful to know if there are any other options that are known through personal experience that would be helpful or could provide additional insight.
This is an urgent and important request and an immediate response would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance. I can be reached at the numbers below.

The Illinois State Police Academy, Firearms Unit has learned there is a major safety recall by Smith and Wesson regarding the Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols. Smith and Wesson has identified a defect in certain pistols that could cause a chambered round to fire when the pistol's hammer is lowered,
even without the trigger being pulled. Smith and Wesson is advising owners of affected Walther pistols to stop using the guns at once and return them
to Smith and Wesson for installation of a new hammer block to remedy the defect. This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith and Wesson between March 21, 2002, and February 3, 2009.
For further information, you may contact Smith and Wesson via the following methods:
