"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Lt. Bill Kerfin of Lodge 263. Brother Bill was the "father" of Lodge 263 and there has been no one better at speaking concerning fraternal issues and safety for the men and women of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Bill was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him."

To The Family of Bill Kerfin,
Allow me this opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois State Lodge to express our deepest sympathy.
I had the distinct privilege to serve with Brother Kerfin the entire time he served as a Trustee for the State Lodge. I was able to visit with him on Friday, May 21st at the State Lodge Office in Springfield while he was attending his local lodge meeting. He came into my office, as he would every time, to ask how I was doing, if I needed anything and if he could help me in anyway to just let him know. It was this sort of act of kindness and generosity that was so typical of Bill and I will always be grateful for having been able to call him my friend.
I know he loved his family because he would speak so fondly of your accomplishments and would light up with pride as he would relate one story or another. Bill cannot be replaced and will forever leave his mark with the IL FOP due to his true spirit of fraternalism and his selfless acts of support to the membership. Bill was one that could always be counted on to volunteer and wanted to reach out a hand to show his support.
If there is anything that I or the State Lodge Staff may do to be of assistance, please do not hesitate to call upon us. May you know the peace which passes all understanding.
Sincerely,
