Line of duty death of South Jacksonville Police Officer Scot Fitzgerald > ILFOP

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge and Labor Council have issued the following statements following the death of South Jacksonville Police Officer Scot Fitzgerald, who died March 5 following a line of duty accident March 4 in Morgan County. Fitzgerald was a member of Jacksonville FOP Lodge 125.

“The Fraternal Order of Police has lost a fellow member and brother who died doing what he loved, serving his community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Scot's wife, his two young children, and the family, friends, fellow police officers and community members who all have been greatly enriched by his kindness, generosity and service,” said FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood. “Scot's loss makes our hearts ache, but we can find comfort in the fact that the community of South Jacksonville is a better place because of his selfless service and dedication.”

“Scot knew the very real danger that all law enforcement officials willingly face every day when they put on the badge and go out to protect and serve all of us,” said FOP Labor Council Director David Wickster. “Whether it was the community he served or the family he loved, Scot followed the example of the prophet Isaiah, who said to the Lord, 'here I am. Send me.' Scot's life is an inspiration to all of us, and he will be deeply missed.”
