SB 1679

ILFOP Logo

Since the 2009 Veto session, the ILFOP has formed a coalition with all police and fire political action groups and the Illinois Public Pension Assoc. We have proven successful in holding the line against the attacks against public employee pensions. We plan to maintain and grow the coalition and continue to fight for our members and other union employees in the 97th General Assembly.

SB 1679 breaks a negotiated agreement contained in the pension reform bill which passed just last month,  to have the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability conduct a study into the feasibility and impact of consolidation -for investment pooling only. This bill was strongly supported by the Illinois Municipal League.  (See Public Act 96-1495)

It appears that SB 1679 is a transfer of authority- for investment pooling only. However, the ILFOP and the union coalition will oppose any premature action to alter the statutorily created scheme of the local pension fund system.

The sponsor of SB 1679 is Senator Schoenberg , the Co-Chairman of the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.  Contact information for Senator Schoenberg can be found by clicking the hyperlink attached to his name above.  Please click here for a list of the other members of the Commission and their contact information.

Please look to our Legislative Page of our website or to our Facebook Page for more information on the ongoing status of this and other bills we are tracking.  We also provide information on how members can get involved and best affect legislation concerning the Fraternal Order of Police.
